The Opportune

The opportune is back for 2010..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ann Coulter is on TV blabbling about how the liberals are responsible for the things that are happening. We know she always try to push boundaries always writing provocatively to get attention. Whoop called her out on that during the episode, saying “its an act”

Watch and enjoy!

dirty-laundry2008 like all the pervious years are filled with scandals, some of which shocked us to the core, they made us say, “Say it isn’t so”. We have put together a list of the five dumbest things done by public figures in 2008.

(1) Eliot Spitzer, Squeaky clean or so we think Governor of  New York, implicated in a prostitution ring paying thousands of dollars (We hope not tax payers money) to sleep with Prostitutes. The reason we are shocked by this was because Eliot Spitzer was known as the Slayer of  Wall Street when he was New York attorney General. He was out on a crusade for all the Wall Street  so called bad guys.

(2) John Edwards, seemed like a stand up guy, in the Democratic primaries, until some woman accused him of having an affair and having a love child. We say, “Say it is not so”. We loved John Edwards this really shocked us to the core, because of the situation with his wife (Healthwise). In an August 8, 2008 statement, and an interview with  ABC News, Edwards admitted the affair with Hunter in 2006 but denied being the father of her child. He acknowledged that he had been dishonest in denying the entire Enquirer story, admitting that some of it was true, but said that the affair ended long before the time of the child’s conception.

(3) Jessie Jackson caught on camera making crude remarks about Barack Obama. We were shocked that he would do such a thing on television and Fox News at that. The tapes were played over and over and Jessie apologized for this act of jealousy which seemed to have blown out of proportion. Jessie was later seeing crying at Election night when Obama won the election.

(4) Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s resignation was the second major political scandal – after Mark Foley – to revolve around text messages. Dogged with controversies throughout his term, from wild parties involving strippers at his official residence, the murder of a stripper and claims that he fired police whistle blowers, the nattily-dressed Kilpatrick was eventually undone by his sexual chatter with his chief of staff Christine Beatty.

(5) Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich aleggedly caught on wire tapes trying to sell the Senate seat being vacated by Senator Barack Obama. After numerous cries for him to step down he proclaims his innocense.

hillary-clintonWho would have thought the Clinton’s would have come and gone from New York Society, its not like they were native New Yorkers anyway. They moved in because of Hillary’s ambitions and we grew to love them anyway as New Yorkers. To celebrate how much we love the Clintons Mayor Bloomberg had the power couple lower the New Years Eve Ball which is a tradition in New York City.

It will be sad to see the Clintons go, now that Hillary will take tackle her new public service role of Secretary of State and will be travelling the world and mostly based in Washinton D.C.

NN_27obama2Barack Obama defied the odds in 2008, the year he became the first African American to be nominated by a major political party and becoming the president elect of the United States of America. Its been a long road for the senator from Illinois whose slogan throughout his bid for president was “Yes we can”. Obama persevered after a long and rocky road to become the Democratic front runner for president. He faced stiff competition from a former first lady, a woman who was adored by a majority of women in the United States for her tenacity and will power and for championing  social causes, (Education, and Health Care), New York Senator Hillary Clinton.

Many people stated that Obama reminded them of another Democratic President who defied the odds to become President of the United States, (John Fitzgerald Kennedy). Obama was popular with the college crowd, the ones who cried for change, and as Obama puts it during his campaign trail, “Change that you can believe in”. The Younger Democrats supported Obama from the get go, they stood by him through the reverend Wright scandal, the Bill Ayers debacle, the 2am advertisement, the Obama is a Muslim debacle, and the final straw which was the Joe the Plumber debacle. What older politicians seem to not understand is that they cannot under estimate the power of the younger voting block and that they are not prone to threats as previous generations and that mudslinging is not cool.

Obama will inherit a huge problem when he takes office in a few weeks from today, A Economy is recession, two wars, (Afganistan conflict, and the war in Iraq), but his first test will definately be how he and his new Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton will handle the crisis which errupted a few weeks ago in the Middle East between Israel and the Palestinian territory on the Gaza Strip. The world is waiting to see how this will be handled. Will their be a sit down between all the major parties involved as Obama proposed during his campaign. It will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.

The Economy is also another challenge which Obama will face, with all the major Wall Street Banks gone the jobless claims are up and more and more people are defaulting on their mortgages and other loans the only solution is to pump more money in the economy, because raising taxes might not be the best option in such an economy.

Keeping the country safe is another are which might be of challenge for Obama and his cabinet, because like it or not their has truly not been a major attack on the United States since the September 11th 2001 attacks, which is something the Republican party would like the country to remember, but as Obama once said, “Yes we can”, so we also have to wait to see how this one plays out. He already has the right team in place and as even chosen Robert Gates who is the Defense Secretary of the Bush Administration and the Defense Secretary of his Administration. This move outraged many Democrats and critics who chided Obama for wanting change but chose Gates who was a major player in the Bush Administration. Obama supporters states that this is Obama showing that his is the New Great Uniter and this he can work with both Democrats and Republicans.

tinaTina Fey’s name seems to be turning up on every list this year. She has been named the star of the year. (TV GUIDE, Vanity Fair). Fey has impeccable wit and comedic timing. She has been staring and writing her own show on NBC called thirty rock, but it was when Fey first blurted out on screen that “Bitch is the New Black”, back when Hillary Clinton was running against then Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama that she actually caught our attention.

Tina gives hope to all the writers out their that you can be nerdy (being a writer) and hot all at the same time. Tina’s success as a comedian reached its pinnacle when presidential hopeful John McCain chose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Tina Fey has a striking resemblance to Sarah Palin who was a punching bag for the liberal media. Tina capitalized on all the negative press that Sarah received on the satirical series on NBC called Saturday Night live. Fey had being a writer for Saturday Night Live for many years but playing Sarah Palin brought her the most recognition and a boost in the ratings for the show. According to Vanity Fair Tina Fey received a 5 million dollar book deal as a result of her playing Sarah Palin. Fey also saw her show won the Best Comedy Series at the 2008 Emmy Awards with Fey also winning the Best Actress trophy.

That What we call a great year!!!!

igorCivil war, US will break up! seriously well Russian Professor Igor Panarin seem to think so. With the economy almost in shambles. Looks like someone is predicting what happened in the former Soviet Union a few years ago for the United States. I am no political expert but in the United States we don’t live in states based on different ethnic groups as the for Soviet States did. I would find it very hard to believe that New York or say California becoming its own country.

The professor even predicts how the country would be divided into four regions. He states to the Wall Street Journal that, “There’s a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur,” he says. “One could rejoice in that process,” he adds, poker-faced. “But if we’re talking reasonably, it’s not the best scenario — for Russia.” Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S.

This Funny or Die Website has really caught our eye since the whole Paris Hilton/John McCain debacle earlier this year when John McCain in his presidential cam

paign compared then presidential hopeful Barack Obama

to Paris Hilton. Hilton took to funny or die to attack John McCain.

Rebecca Romijin and her husband Jerry O’Connell took to the site to spoof their pregnancy!

dollar12008  prove to be a very interesting year thus far for the US Economy. Wall Street was brought to its knees this year as the US Financial system almost broke down. Earlier this year when Bear Sterns fell we had no idea that this was going to be the beginning of the end for the prestigious Wall Street Banks, but Main Street Banks were not immune to this crisis either.

The Markets were also at an all time high until consumers started defaulting on their Mortgages and it all came crumbling down or so the financial experts say. Investments banks had bets on Mortgages really bad Mortgages and boy it they all fall down. JP Morgan Chase quickly took over Bear Sterns with the help of the Government. Indy Mac Bank was closed by the FDIC. We watched as long lines stood outside the doors trying to find out how they could retrieve what could be their life savings. As I watched this terrifying scene played out on my television set I though to myself how could the bank allow such a thing to happen, how could they allow the approval of loans that most of these people could not afford. Some blame lack of regulation or lack of common sense but we blame it on greed. The Banks want to maximize profit so bad, the brokers who put through the deal want to make a quick buck so bad and in most cases the consumer who just bought the home hoping the price of the home would go up so they could sell it at a higher price (Flip). Some even blamed the government for the lack of regulation

As the year went by we saw Lehman Brothers Bank failed, apparently no one rescued them, Merrill Lynch was acquired by Bank Of America. A lot of people lost a lot of money with Lehman Brothers going down many went from riches to rags, and the jobless rates climbed. Banks virtually stopped lending money to clients which prompted congress to approve a stimulus package of $700 Billion dollars to inject into bank holding companies and stimulate the economy. We have never seen treasury secretary Henry Paulson so often, he was on TV everyday trying to get things in order. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley which were the last standing traditional investment banks became holding companies so they could get a piece of the $700 Billion dollars.

The most interesting showdown was between Wells Fargo and Citigroup over troubled bank Wachovia. It was first announced that Wachovia was to be taken over by Citigroup but then Well Fargo came in the last minute and took Wachovia from citigroup. Citigroup was cash strapped, Wachovia had $400 billion in deposits which would help a ailing Citigroup which was at the time taking a pounding in its stock price. It went from the fifty dollar rage a year ago to a low of the $ 3 range.

For Joe six pack who does not understand what all this means what do we do if all the banks are going down and now one really knows what to do. Should we take all our money out of the banks and leave it in our basements.

81707316RM072_Baltimore_RavWe were all excited about Sundays game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys loss the game but what we did not know was that Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo Collapsed in the Shower after the Cowboys were defeated. Romo reportedly had bruised ribs, but we are glad that everything seems to be Ok with him.
